Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Saturday, July 19, announced that the rail coach factory under construction in Telangana’s Kazipet is set to commence production next year. During his visit to the unit in Kazipet, located approximately 130 km from Hyderabad, Vaishnaw stated the facility is a mega, state-of-the-art factory being built with an investment of Rs 500 crore. The Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology highlighted that the unit is designed to support multiple types of railway manufacturing, capable of producing coaches, engines, and various other components. Vaishnaw noted that the factory boasts one of the world's finest designs, and its manufactured products will meet export quality standards. The Union Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with fulfilling the long-standing desire of Telangana for a coach manufacturing factory in Kazipet. Vaishnaw predicted that "India will emerge as a major railway manufacturing and exporting country in the future." Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, who accompanied Vaishnaw during the inspection of Kazipet Rail Coach Factory (RMU) in Telangana’s Warangal, thanked PM Modi and the railway minister for establishing the unit in Kazipet. “On behalf of the people of Warangal and Telangana, I thank Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, who laid the foundation stone for this RMU and fulfilled the long-standing dream of the people of Warangal. I also thank Shri. @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for his efforts and dedication towards transforming the face of Telangana's Rail infrastructure,” he wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Reddy underscored that the demand for setting up a railway coach factory is over 40 years old, with even former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, a native of Telangana (then part of Hyderabad state), having made efforts towards it. He added that the demand was reiterated during the Telangana statehood movement and has now materialised under PM Modi's leadership. Reddy anticipates the unit will create around 3,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect employment opportunities. Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw said Hyderabad city is a prime focus for the development of the railway network. The South Central Railway General Manager, headquartered in Secunderabad, has been tasked with doubling the network's capacity in the Hyderabad area (including Secunderabad and other stations) from approximately 600 to 1,200 trains daily, he said. Vaishnaw further stated that Telangana's proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) would be transformative, noting that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently requested a 30-meter corridor alongside the RRR for rail connectivity along its entire length during a meeting in Delhi recently.(With PTI inputs)
