Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, today, July 27, announced that he is hoping the priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro, stretching from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, is expected to become operational by October this year. The CM also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officiate the launch of the metro. The Chief Minister personally inspected the under-construction project, undertaking a test ride on a three-coach metro train from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, and then to Rani Kamalapati station. During his inspection, he reviewed the onboard features and facilities. Speaking to reporters, CM Yadav stated, "The Bhopal metro project is progressing rapidly. A few incomplete works will be completed within one and a half to two months. The government is working swiftly to give a gift of metro train service to people by October.” He also highlighted the positive public response to the Indore metro service, indicating similar high hopes for Bhopal. Yadav confirmed that the test run of the Bhopal Metro is underway, and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has already completed its inspection. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will soon conduct inspection of the metro works. “Once the CMRS gives clearance, the priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro will be opened for public transport," the CM added. Yadav further stated that the Bhopal Metro project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,941.40 crore. The Subhash Nagar to AIIMS priority corridor alone accounts for approximately Rs 2,225 crore and is nearing completion. "Our target is to start metro operations on this priority corridor by October 2025. The roadmap aims to fully operationalise both corridors- orange and blue lines- before 2030," the Chief Minister said. Sharing further details, Yadav said the Bhopal Metro a design speed of 90 kmph and an operational speed ranging from 40 to 60 kmph. Out of a planned 27 state-of-the-art metro train sets for the project, seven have already arrived in the state capital. Yadav emphasized that the metro system will not only ensure convenient travel but also significantly contribute to environmental protection and pollution control. The Indore Metro Rail Project, with a Phase 1 length of 33.53 kilometres, is estimated at Rs 7,500 crore and financed through a mix of central and state funds, along with international development loans. A 5.9-kilometre priority section from Gandhi Nagar to Station Number 3 has completed successful trial runs, and full operations are targeted for 2027. The Bhopal Metro’s Orange Line, extending from AIIMS to Karond, will feature 16 stations—14 elevated and two underground—across a 16.69-kilometre alignment. Of this, 13.3 kilometres will run on elevated viaducts, while 3.39 kilometres will be constructed underground. The Blue Line will span 14.16 kilometres from Bhadbhada to Ratnagiri Tiraha, consisting entirely of elevated track with 14 stations along the corridor. Together, the two lines will cover a total length of 30.85 kilometres and accommodate 30 stations, forming the backbone of Bhopal’s new mass transit system. Sharing updates on the Indore metro, Yadav noted that the government aims to commence full section from Super Corridor to Malviya Nagar (Radisson) intersection by the end of this year.
