Telangana High Court had issued notices to Congress party Palakurthy Assembly constituency in-charge H. Jhansi Laxmi Reddy to explain her stand over a writ petition in which she was accused of violating FEMA regulations by purchasing agricultural land though by virtue of she being US citizen.
The petitioner P. Damoder Reddy, a resident of Illenda of Wardhannapet in Warangal district, stated that Jhansi Reddy and her husband Rajender Reddy, also a US citizen, purchased 75 acres of agricultural land in Mahbubabad district. This transaction was done in violation of FEMA rules, the petitioner contended.
Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy, who heard the petitioner’s contentions in May first week, directed the Enforcement Directorate authorities to explain their stand over the petitioner’s statement that they had not initiated action against Jhansi Reddy and her husband though the purchase of lands by US citizens was barred by law. Jhansi Reddy is mother-in-law of Palakurthy MLA Yashaswini Reddy. The matter was posted to June 19 for next hearing.
