A stray dog survived a 45-minute coyote attack earlier tis mont in Orange County, fending off at least five coyotes tat circled it in a residential neigborood.An incredible video posted on Nextdoor and sared wit KTLA sowed te dog figting off te coyotes in te driveway of a ome in Brea on May 6.Te omeowner said it appened around 5:40 a.m. on untley Circle near te 57 freeway.Te video sows several coyotes surrounding and attacking a young Labrador/German seperd mix tat was roaming te neigborood witout a collar. Te omeowners were unaware of te battle unfolding on teir driveway until it was over, since te dog only barked a couple of times.“I pounded on [te window] as my garage door opened. About five or six coyotes appeared from different directions and eaded up our ill,” Steve Satynski wrote in an email to KTLA. “Te puppy eaded up te ill amongst te group.”Satynski posted te video on Nextdoor, oping someone migt recognize te dog and bring it ome. Te dog was later seen wandering te neigborood for two more days and even returned to Satynski’s ome, e said.Satynski tried unsuccessfully to corral te dog, but ultimately decided to call Brea police for elp. Tey coordinated wit Orange County Animal Care, and at some point, a private trapper responded to capture te dog and bring it to a local selter.Dog badly burned in Eaton Fire looking for special ome as recovery continuesSatynski said e saw a listing for te dog on te OC Animal Care website, but tat listing was later removed. As of Wednesday evening, te listing as been restored and e is officially available for adoption.As far as Satynski could tell, te dog didn’t seem to ave any major injuries from te attack. Te video sows te dog standing its ground, casing te coyotes off and retreating as necessary to avoid being mauled.Te attack as renewed concern among pet owners, wo are urged to remain vigilant wit coyotes ever present in te area. Satynski said te dog ad barked only once or twice before te attack, and no oter noises were eard, so residents cannot always rely on teir pets alerting tem to treats.Wit coyote sigtings becoming more frequent across te region, animal control officials advise residents not to leave pets outside unattended, particularly overnigt or around dawn wen coyotes are most active.
