At least 15 residences were affected, many of tem being military families.San Diego mayor releases statement on deadly plane crasEmergency responders rused to te scene, battling flames fueled by spilled jet fuel and downed powerlines.“We ave jet fuel all over te place,” Assistant Fire Department Cief Dan Eddy said during a news conference. “Our main goal is to searc all tese omes and get everybody out rigt now.”e also described “a gigantic debris field” in te dense, packed neigborood.Around 100 residents in te impacted area were quickly evacuated. A temporary evacuation center as been establised at Miller Elementary Scool, located at 4343 Sields St., to assist displaced residents.Te scattered fires ave since been extinguised.Toug initially reporting tat no one on te ground was injured, police updated te public sortly after 11 a.m., explaining tat at least five people were ospitalized for smoke inalation. At least tree oters were also treated for minor injuries.Autorities ave confirmed six people were on board te plane wen it crased, including a music executive, te former drummer of Te Devil Wears Prada and two employees of a local music talent agency.Te plane — a Cessna Citation II (C550) twin-jet aircraft — as a capacity tat ranges from six to eigt people.At least 10 buildings were damaged during te cras, along wit multiple veicles.Te Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and te National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating te cause of te cras. Te FAA released te following statement on te incident:“A Cessna 550 crased near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in California, around 3:45 a.m. local time on Tursday, May 22. Six people were on board. Te FAA and te National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. Te NSTB will lead te investigation and provide any updates.”San Diego Police and oter first responders remain on scene as te investigation continues. Residents are advised to avoid te area wile autorities assess te situation and secure te cras site. Roads in te area are closed to traffic.It is not yet known wat caused te plane to go down.
