Bollywood actress Kajol, currently promoting her upcoming film Maa, recently found herself at the center of controversy after calling Ramoji Film City “one of the most haunted places in the world” during a promotional interview. Her comments drew sharp criticism from Telugu cinema fans, particularly in Hyderabad.

In response to the backlash, Kajol took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a clarification. She wrote: “I wish to address my earlier remark about Ramoji Film City in the context of promoting my film MAA. I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking and I have seen so many tourists enjoying themselves. It’s a great destination and absolutely safe for families and children.”

Despite the clarification, reactions on social media remained mixed. One user commented, “Why did you talk otherwise then?” while another came to her defense, writing, “You are one of the few honest actors in the industry who has the ability to call a spade a spade. Please don’t change that about you.” A third user remarked, “Capitalism always wins, lol. Was fully expecting this to happen.”

For context, the controversy began after Kajol told Galatta India, “I’ve shot at places that made me feel uneasy. I couldn’t sleep. Ramoji Film City, to me, is one of the most haunted places in the world,” clarifying that she hadn’t seen any ghosts herself but was deeply affected by the eerie energy of the location.

While Kajol has addressed the issue on social media, she has not made any public statements about it at recent promotional events. Notably, the actress is actively engaged in promotions for Maa, including a recent appearance at Bollywood Hungama’s Hangout fan meet-and-greet. The film is slated for release in theatres on June 27.
